esnasında seyyahın, rotası üzerinde gördüğü, kaleme aldığı, resme aktardığı her an
Onun izinde yolculuk eden
seyyahlardan biri olan Haluk Dursun, gezdiği her yerde geçmişin izlerini arar. Kâh
bulduklarına sevinir kâh kaybolanlara üzülür. Her seyahatinde tarihe dair izler
benzerliklerin ve farklılıkların izini sürmeye çalışacağız.; People set out on long journeys or took shorter ones with many different
motivations such as curiosity, trade, science, adventure and discovery throughout
history. During these travels, every moment and event that the traveler saw, wrote,
and painted on his route now provide important information for different
geographies. Travel books, in a way, offer their readers narratives that cannot be
accessed in official documents and archives. It sheds light on the history of an
unknown geography, city and daily life.
In this respect, Evliya Çelebi as a traveler, and Evliya Çelebi’s Seyahatnâme as a
text brought a lot of information that may have remained in the dark about more
than a hundred cities on three continents to the present day. Evliya Çelebi is also a
source of inspiration for today's travelers with his travel life and works. Haluk
Dursun, a historian and traveler who travels following Çelebi’s footsteps, searches
for traces of the past wherever he travels. He is happy with what he has found, and
he is sad with those who have been lost. While searching for traces of history on
every trip, he also remembers Evliya Çelebi.
In this study, we will accompany the journey of two travelers along the Danube.
We will try to trace the changes, the unchanging, the similarities and the differences
by giving place to the narratives and perspectives of two travelers about the Danube
and Turkish culture on the Danube from the 17th to the 21st century.

Commercial Deceit: Fraudulent Trade from the Ports of Cilicia and Cyprus to the Mamlūks
Usta, Ahmet
The article aims to examine the deceitful practices employed by
traders in the eastern Mediterranean. It investigates three
principal types of deception that Italian merchants in the
Kingdom of Cilician Armenia and in Cyprus used in order to
conceal prohibited products and their routes to Mamlūk ports
between 1260 and 1310. The papacy issued several decrees that
prohibited Christian merchants from trading in various strategic
items, such as timber, iron and slaves, in the harbours of Islamic
states. However, despite these bans, Christian merchants
continued trading in such items by devising methods to conceal
this traffic. Current literature has so far focused on the items that
were shipped across the eastern Mediterranean and their
destinations; however, there is a gap in knowledge about who
these merchants were and the methods they used to circumvent
the prohibitions while shipping the goods. This research aims to
fill this gap by answering questions about the conditions of the
trade and the covert methods used for the transportation of
prohibited goods to Mamlūk ports.

unsurları, belde-i müsevvere, belde-i tayyibe, belde-i meşhûre, medîne-i kebîre, belde-i kadîme, medîne-i
hasene, medîne-i muhdese gibi öz kavramlarla ifade etmektedirler. Bu çalışma kapsamında 17. yüzyıla
kadar kaleme alınmış Osmanlı coğrafya eserlerinden Evliyâ Çelebi’nin Seyahatnâme’si, Âşık Mehmed’in
Menâzirü’l-avâlim’i, Kâtib Çelebi’nin Cihannümâ’sı, Mustafa b. Ali’nin Tuhfetü’z-zamân’ı ve Sipâhîzâde
Mehmed’in Evzahu’l-mesâlik’inde yer alan şehirlerin (belde/medine) hangi kavram ve sıfatlarlarla
Osmanlı medeniyetindeki şehir, coğrafyacıların özgün ifadeleri ile anlaşılmış olacaktır.; Geographical works have an important place among the resources to be used for a city’s history,
culture, social structure, population, and architecture. In the content of many geographical artifacts,
cities are always of unique importance and are dealt within larger sections. In a geographical work,
general geographical terms, such as information about the seas, mountains, rivers, societies, and cities,
are encountered. This information, which has been accessed as a result of research, observations, and
travels as well as religious and mythological sources, has been developed over the centuries and has
become of unparalleled value in the historical process of a city. Among the important geographical
works for cities, the works written by Ottoman geographers are also of great importance in terms of
quality and quantity. Cities constitute the most important content of geographical work for Ottoman
geographers, who compiled historical knowledge, shared their observations in their own period, and
brought together the information obtained from book sources. In the works of Ottoman geographers,
information is given in a broad perspective, from the city names to the change and development of cities
in the historical process, the geographical location of the city, the culture of the city, and the architectural
structure of the city. Geographers expressed these elements of cities with specific concepts such as
belde-i müsevvere, belde-i tayyibe, belde-i meşhure, medîne-i kebîre, belde-i kadîme, medîne-i hasene,
and medîne-i muhdese. Within the scope of this study, we will try to understand how the cities in
Seyahatnâme by Evliya Çelebi, Menâzirü’l-avâlim by Âşık Mehmed, Cihannümâ by Kâtib Çelebi,
Tuhfetü’z-zamân by Mustafa b. Ali, and Evzahu’l-mesâlik by Sipâhîzâde Mehmed were described,
analyzing the concepts and adjectives used. We will also examine why these concepts and adjectives
were chosen, using examples and comparisons. We will reveal the reflection of the language to the
words together with the background that creates the concepts. Thus, we will try to understand the city
though the unique expressions of these geographers.

Kâtib Çelebi’den Seyyid Es‘ad Efendiye 17. Yüzyılda İklîm-i Rûm Şehirleri
Danış, İlhami
Şehirlerin tarihi, fiziki, beşeri ve ekonomik coğrafyası, konumu, sosyal ve
kültürel yapısı, mimarisi, ekonomisi, tarihi, yolları, yakın şehirlere olan uzaklığı
coğrafyacının başlıca ilgi alanlarıdır. Tıpkı Kâtib Çelebi’nin Cihânnümâ eserinde
olduğu gibi. Cihânnümâ’nın her iki telifinde de şehirler ön plandadır. Eserin
Es‘ad Efendi, Cihânnümâ’nın ilk telifindeki İklîm-i Rûm başlığı altında yer alan
araştırmacıların değerlendirilmesine sunulmuştur.; The locations of cities, their social and cultural structures, architecture,
economies, history, roads, and distances to other nearby cities are the main
subjects of interest to geographers. Kâtib Çelebi, the author of Cihânnümâ
[An Ottoman Cosmography], is one of those geographers. In both copies of
Cihânnümâ, cities are in the foreground. The first part of the work discusses
general geographical information such as the structure of the Earth, its shape,
mountains, seas, rivers, lakes, climates (both mathematically and by regional locations), and countries, after which the work describes many cities on different continents through their important features.
The work Esâmî-i’l-Aktâr ve’l-Büldân ve’l-Kurâ min Cihannümâ (Beyân-ı Memâlik) is registered under no.1803 in the
Murad Molla Section of the Süleymaniye Manuscripts Library and exclusively contains information about cities. One of
the most important features of the work, as the name itself suggests, is its relationship with Cihânnümâ. Its author, Es‘ad
Efendi, decided to write this work while he was pondering Cihânnümâ. Es‘ad Efendi had classified cities in alphabetical
order under the heading Iklîm-i Rûm in the manuscript of the first edition of Cihânnümâ and rewrote them within the
framework of certain subjects he had determined.
This study comparatively discusses and evaluates the contents and the information given about the cities in the work
and compares the two versions of Cihânnümâ and their importance in the literature on Ottoman geography. The end
of the study presents the text of the work for researchers working in the field of geography and city history to evaluate.
