İbn Sîna’nın Eş-Şifa adlı Eserinin Usul El-Hendese Bölümünün İlk Üç Makalesinin Tahkik, Tercüme ve Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Bu tezin ana konusu 11.yy İslam dünyasının en büyük âlimlerinden İbn Sina’nın ünlü eş-Şifa eserinin geometri bölümünün ilk üç makalesinin tahkikli metni ve Türkçe çevirisidir. Mantık, fizik, matematik ve metafizik başlıklarında hazırlanan eser çokça okunmuş ve farklı bölümleri birçok farklı dile tercüme edilmiştir. Ancak matematik başlığının dört bölümünden biri olan geometri bölümünün günümüze kadar başka bir dile tercümesi yapılmamıştır. Hem İslam coğrafyasında hem Batı toplumunda bu kadar tanınan bir âlimin en ünlü eserinin bir bölümünün hiç çevirisinin yapılmamış olması şaşırtıcı bir durumdur. Bu sebeple eserin tamamının olmasa da bir parçasının gün yüzüne çıkmasını sağlayan bu çalışmanın İbn Sina’nın matematik alanındaki çalışmalarını merak edenler için faydalı olacağını umuyoruz. Çalışmada Arapça metin eserin üç nüshasının tahkik edilmesiyle oluşturulmuştur. Tahkik yapılırken herhangi bir nüsha esas kabul edilmemiş, farklılık bulunan yerlerde üç nüsha arasından matematiksel açıdan en doğru ifadeyi içeren nüsha metinde yer almıştır. Diğerleri ise dipnotlarda belirtilmiştir. Türkçe tercümesi ise metnin aslına sadık kalarak gerçekleştirilmiş, dönemin matematik dilini daha iyi yansıtmak için ifadeler modern matematik diline çevrilmeden bırakılmıştır. Çalışmada tahkikli metin ve çeviri metnine ek olarak İbn Sina’nın biyografisi, eş-Şifa kitabının tanıtımı, İslam geometri anlayışı ve Euclid hakkında bilgiler yer almaktadır. İbn Sina’nın matematik çalışmaları hakkında literatürde çok az bilgi vardır. Halen daha İbn Sina’nın bu alana orijinal bir katkı sağlayıp sağlamadığı konusu tartışmalıdır. Bu çalışmada gördüğümüz filozofun geometri konusunda Euclid’in mirasına sadık kaldığı, matematiksel açıdan kayda değer bir yenilik eklemediğidir. Ancak geometri bölümünün tamamının çevirisinden sonra yapılacak olan değerlendirmenin daha uygun olacağı düşünülmektedir.

The main subject of this thesis is the edited texts of the first three articles of the geometry section in the famous work of Avicenna, one of the greatest scholars of Islamic world in the 11th century, titled al-Shifa, and their translation into Turkish. Al-Shifa is composed of four sections, namely logic, physics, mathematics and metaphysics. It has frequently been referred to and its various sections have been translated into several languages; however, as one of the four subsections of the mathematics section, the subsection of geometry was not translated into any language. It is surprising that a subsection of the most famous work of such a well-known scholar has not been translated yet. On this account, we hope that this study will bring a part of this work to light, though not all of it, and will be a meaningful contribution for those who are interested in the studies of Avicenna in the field of mathematics. Within this study, the Arabic text was constructed through the collation of three manuscripts. The edition process was not based on a particular text; whenever there was a difference between the original texts, the one that had the most accurate expression from a mathematical point of view was selected. And the variants were given a place in the footnotes. On the other hand, the Turkish translation was conducted with a special effort to preserve the authenticity of the Arabic text; mathematical expressions were not translated into modern mathematical jargon and were kept as they are in order to reflect the expressions of the era. It has been a controversial issue whether or not Avicenna made an original contribution to mathematical literature. We conclude in this study that he abided by the legacy of Euclid, and did not make a significant novel contribution to mathematics. However, we think that it is more proper to make an assessment after the entire section of geometry is translated into Turkish.
