Advances in artificial intelligence help doctors and experts in the diagnosis of various diseases, and allow it to be used as medical decision support systems in the early diagnosis of diseases. Convolutional neural networks are frequently used to detect diseases quickly and with high performance according to medical images. Millions of people are diagnosed with skin cancer every year around the world, and many people die from this disease. As in any disease, early diagnosis is very important in skin diseases. For this reason, studies on identifying skin diseases with high accuracy using computer-assisted machine learning-based algorithms have gained importance. In this thesis, a method is proposed using the transfer learning model to classify the HAM10000 dataset with high accuracy. In the proposed method, pre-trained models with the ImageNet dataset were transferred after interim training with a large dataset containing skin diseases and used for classification of skin lesion images in the HAM10000 dataset. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, Xception and DenseNet201 convolutional neural network models are used separately. In the experimental studies, the number of images in the HAM10000 data set was increased by the data augmentation method. In experimental studies, convolutional neural network models were trained both without data augmentation and with data augmentation. Experimental studies were organized in two groups. In the first group, the models were trained and classified with the HAM10000 dataset using only ImageNet weights. In the other group, a new method was proposed and after the models were trained with BCN20000, another data set containing skin diseases, using ImageNet weights, the weights of the trained network were transferred to train and classify with the HAM10000 dataset. Thus, instead of using only ImageNet weights, weights updated with the BCN20000 data set were used in the proposed transfer learning method with intermediate learning. The intermediate learning and transfer learning method proposed in the study gave better results than the experiments in the first group, which were performed by transferring only ImageNet weights. According to the test accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and f1-score criteria, better results were obtained when data augmentation was not applied, ranging from 3.2% to 3.6% in the Xcepiton model and from 3.4% to 4.1% in the DenseNet201 model. When data augmentation was applied, better results were obtained in the range of 0.8% to 1.1% in the Xcepiton model, and between 1.3% and 1.5% in the DenseNet201 model. In the study, the best results were obtained with the Xcepiton convolutional neural network model trained by applying the proposed intermediate learning and transfer learning method and the data augmentation technique, and according to the test accuracy, precision, sensitivity and f1-score criteria, respectively, 87.9%, 87.6%, 87.9% and 87.7% values were obtained.en_US
