dc.description.abstractMektep is a word that means "place where wrıtıng is learnt by moslem children. In fact mekteps were places" where Quran is tought. Because, all moslem children leran Quran first. In Ottoman Turkey, this kind of schools were called "Sıbyan Mektepleri" and were assuıned as the first step of the education. Ottomans took thil institution from Seljuk Turks and from other Islamic states. This paper is focused on these schools during Ottoman Era in Uşak.en_US
