Given the excellent performance in making lighter, customizable, strong, and aesthetically attractive components at a reduced time and cost, additive manufacturing (AM) presents an unparalleled approach to extending and developing industrial applications. A conformal cooling channel (CCC) is one application that is gaining traction in many vital industries, including mold production, aerospace, healthcare, automotive, and electronics. In this study, the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) based AM approach is utilized experimentally and numerically to incorporate a CCC network to improve the performance of a weld joint of 316 L SS plates. The study demonstrates a substantial improvement in welding performance by expediting heat dissipation during the TIG welding process using a specifically constructed CCC network on weld plates. Furthermore, CCC-based computational models reported better hardness around the weld joint and lowered residual stress levels.
