Bilim Tarihinde İlerleme Kavramı

Abstract

İlerleme kavramı bilim tarihinde en çok tartışılan mefhumlardan bir tanesidir. Bu kavramla ilgili birçok düşünür oldukça geniş ve derin yorumlar yapmış, konuyla ilgili olarak ciddi eserler yazılmıştır. İlerleme kavramının tarihi yelpazesi zannedildiğinden daha karmaşık ve muğlaktır. Bu karmaşıklığı ve muğlaklığı olabildiği kadar basitleştirmeye çalışacak, bilim tarihinde bir dönem olarak nitelendirilen ilerleme kavramının tarihsel sürecini geniş bir şekilde göstermeye çalışacağız. Bilim tarihinde şekillenen bir imge olarak ilerleme kavramının geleneksel ve modern düşünürlerin perspektifiyle değerlendirmek bu kavramın hangi değişimlerden geçtiğinin geniş bir seyrini anlama bakımından ufkumuzu açacaktır. Konuyla ilgili birçok farklı bakış açısından yola çıkılarak yazılmış eser ve makale bulunsa da, özellikle geleneksel dünyadaki bakış açısıyla ilgili daha derin bir değerlendirme yapma çabamız konuyu daha verimli hale getirecektir. Bu bağlamda tezimizin temel gayesi geleneksel, modern ve postmodern düşünürlerin ilerleme kavramıyla ilgili düşüncelerinin geniş özetini vermek, bu düşüncelerin tarihsel mukayesesini yapmak, son olarak ta karşılaştırmalı bir şekilde bu tarihsel süreci farklı dönemdeki olgularla örneklendirmektir.

The concept of progress is one of the most debated concepts in the history of science. Many thinkers have made extensive and deep comments on this concept, and serious works have been written on the subject. The historical spectrum of the concept of progress is more complex and ambiguous than one might think. We will try to simplify this complexity and ambiguity as much as possible, and we will try to show the historical process of the concept of progress, which is characterized as a period in the history of science, in a broad way. Evaluating the concept of progress as an image shaped in the history of science from the perspective of traditional and modern thinkers will open our horizons in terms of understanding a wide range of changes this concept has gone through. Although there are works and articles written on the subject from many different perspectives, our effort to make a deeper assessment, especially from the perspective of the traditional world, will make the subject more productive. In this context, the main purpose of our thesis is to give a broad summary of the thoughts of traditional, modern and postmodern thinkers on the concept of progress, to make a historical comparison of these ideas, and finally to exemplify this historical process in a comparative way with facts from different periods.
