Abstract

Recently, additive manufacturing (AM), commonly known as three-dimensional (3D) printing, has become an environmentally friendly technology that provides energy savings, less material consumption and efficient production. Additive manufacturing is a small amount of material at a time machining is a process that involves joining successive parts directly from a computer-aided-design (CAD) model to produce the desired part (Ngoa et al., 2018). 3D additive manufacturing technologies are generally classified according to the technology used, materials, and process types (Figure 10.1). According to the ISO/ ASTM 529000:2015 standard, 3D additive manufacturing methods are classified into seven categories. Although each method has advantages and disadvantages in different aspects, it appeals to different areas of use. The products produced by the additive manufacturing method are mainly used in the aerospace, aviation, defense, medicine, electrical-electronics, and automotive industries. (Hajare and Gajbhiye, 2022).
