Bir Kolonyalist Propaganda : Viktorya Devri İngiliz Çocuk Edebiyatında Oryantalizm

Abstract

Edebiyat alanında verilen eserler, çoğu zaman yazıldıkları dönemin iktidarının söylemlerini içlerinde barındırırlar. Dolayısıyla Viktorya Devri Çocuk Edebiyatı’nda dönemin iktidarının, kolonyalist politikalarını meşrulaştırmak adına ürettiği söylemler ışığında yaptıkları propagandaların yansımalarını görmek mümkündür. Bu bağlamda, Viktorya Devri Çocuk Edebiyatı’nda karşılaşılabilecek propagandalardan biri de, oryantalist söylemle oluşturulmuş olanlardır. Bu çalışmada, Viktorya Devri’nde çocuk edebiyatı alanında verilen dört farklı eserdeki oryantalist söylem tahlil edilecektir ve eserlerin ürettikleri bu oryantalist söylemin, kolonyalizm propagandası olarak yorumlanabileceği öne sürülecektir.

Literary works usually include the discourses of the government of the time period that they were written. Consequently, it is possible to see the reflections of the propagandas that was created in the light of the discourses produced by the government to legitimate the colonialist policies, in the Victorian Era Children’s Literature. In this context, one of the propagandas that can be seen in the Victorian Era Children’s Literature is the one which is created with the orientalist discourse. In this work, the orientalist discourse in four different children’s literature works that are given in the Victorian Era will be analyse and the orientalist discourse which is produced in these works is going to be suggested as a colonialist propaganda.
