Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin’i Anmak ve Anlamak

Abstract

Cumhurbaşkanlığı tarafından 2019 yılının “Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin” yılı olarak ilan edilmesi vesilesiyle düzenlenen I. Uluslararası İslam Bilim Tarihi Sempozyumu çerçevesinde Fuat Sezgin’in kişiliği, eserleri ve çalışmaları, dünya bilim tarihçileri tarafından hey yönüyle ele alınmıştır. Biz de giriş yazısı olarak Fuat Sezgin Hoca’yı anmak ve anlamak üzerine bir makale kaleme almaya çalıştık ve Fuat hocanın bilim tarihi misyonu üzerinden hareketle İslam medeniyeti ve bu medeniyetin Batı dünyasına yapmış olduğu etkilerine temas ettik. Aynı zamanda 19-20 Yüzyıllarda Batı’da ortaya çıkan oryantalist araştırmalar ile ideolojik oryantalizm karşısında, GAS gibi İslam medeniyetini her yönüyle inceleyen eserleriyle Fuat Sezgi’nin bilhassa İslam dünyası için yeniden uyanış hamlelerine dikkat çekmek istedik.

On the occasion of “2019 Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Year” announced by the President of the Republic of Turkey, the First International Symposium on the History of Science in Islam was held in Istanbul between 15-19 June 2019. Distinguished historians of science from all over the world talked about Fuat Sezgin’s personality, scientific works and scientific studies. In this introduction, we attempted to write an article on “Remembering and Understanding Fuat Sezgin”. In this article based on Fuat Hodja’s vision for the History of Science, we touched on the effects of Islamic civilization and and how this civilization influenced the Western world. At the same time, we wanted to draw attention to initiatives made by Fuat Sezgin in his works to revive, especially for the Islamic world, all aspects of Islamic civilization such as GAS in the face of ideological orientalism and academic Orientalism, which emerged in the Western world in the 19th and 20th centuries.
