This study examines the recycling awareness of children aged 48–60 months attending preschool. Using a qualitative case study design, the research was conducted with 36 children selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview form and a drawing form developed by the researchers. Children’s drawings and interview responses were analyzed using content analysis with MAXQDA Analytics Pro 2022 (VERBI Software, Berlin, Germany), licensed to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University Center for Excellence in Education Research (EMAM). According to the findings, children describe recycling as reusing materials and creating new objects, identifying paper, glass, and plastic as recyclable. They state that recycled materials can be transformed into new paper and various items. They associate recycling with maintaining a clean and aesthetically pleasing environment and consider it essential for a livable world. Analysis of their drawings shows frequent themes of environmental pollution, recycling, and nature, indicating strong conceptual understanding. Overall, the results suggest that preschool children possess solid awareness of recycling and recognize its environmental benefits. However, their responses imply that real-life practices may vary, particularly in home environments. Therefore, strengthening collaboration between schools and families is recommended to promote consistent recycling habits among young children.
