Özet

Muslim-friendly tourism (MFT) is not a separate form of tourism but a practice that can be integrated into various types of tourism. This study explores the potential of MFT in Izmir. First, the main components of tourism products—attractions, accessibility, image, events, and enter-prises—were conceptually outlined. Then, these elements were assessed in the context of Izmir. The findings show that Izmir has strong attractions, supporting the development of alternative tourism types. In terms of accessibility, the city’s geographical and strategic location is advantageous, as it 62can be reached by air, rail, sea, and road. Izmir also benefits from numerous festivals, events, and fairs throughout the year, which strengthen its tourism profile. For Muslim-friendly practices, incorporating leisure activities where tourists can participate comfortably is important. For instance, offering gender-based instructor options in activities such as paragliding may appeal to Muslim visitors. In terms of enterprises, four hotels in Izmir qualify as Muslim-friendly hotels (MFHs), each providing halal food and operating without alcohol service. Overall, the study concludes that Izmir possesses significant potential for MFT. Recommendations are offered to further enhance this potential, ensuring the city develops as an inclusive and competitive tourism destination.
