Tevfîk el-Hakîm’in Avdetu’t-Rûh Adlı Eserinde Varoluş İlkesi: Adanmışlık

Abstract

Batılılaşma sürecinde Mısır edebiyatına çeviri eserler yoluyla giren roman sanatı başarısız ilk örneklerinden sonra yerel renklerine kavuşmuş, dönemin sorunsallarını konu edinerek toplum hafızasını oluşturmuştur. Kadının eğitimi, eş seçimi ve batıl inançların ana temayı oluşturduğu ilk ürünlerden sonra romanın sosyal ve siyasal tüm alanlarda toplumun inşasına soyunduğu görülür. Modern edebiyatın öncü isimlerinden olan Tevfîk el-Hakîm, tiyatro sanatına gönül vermesine rağmen toplumsal sorunları ele almada daha elverişli gördüğü romanın gelişimine katkıda bulunmak amacıyla bu formda da ürün vermiştir. Bunlar arasında yer alan Avdetu’r-Rûh adlı eserinde Batı karşısında köklü geçmişe sarılan entelektüel kitlenin argümanlarını kullanmıştır. Esas olarak on beş yaşlarındaki bir gencin yaşam öyküsünü konu edinen romanda ana temayı oluşturan adanmışlık duygusunun yanında dönemin sorunsallarından olan feodalite ve batıl inançlar da eleştiri konuları arasında yer almıştır. Araştırmada doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmış, araştırmanın desenini durum çalışması oluşturmuştur. Problem durumu Avdetu’r-Rûh adlı eserin içeriğinde yer alan eleştiri unsurlarının araştırılmasıdır. İlk dönem Mısır romanın önemli bir halkasını oluşturan eser hakkında şimdiye kadar sınırlı sayıda çalışma yapılmış olması araştırmanın önemini ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışmada el-Hakîm’in edebî kişiliği ele alındıktan sonra Mısır edebiyatında romanın önemli halkalarından birini oluşturan söz konusu eser içeriğindeki sorunsallar çerçevesinde incelenerek analiz edilecektir.

During the process of Westernization, the art of the novel entered Egyptian literature through translated works. After the initial, less valued examples, the novel began to acquire local characteristics, reflecting the issues of the time and contributing to the collective memory of the society. Early works focused on themes such as women’s education, marriage choices, and superstitions. Later, the novel took on a role in shaping society across social and political spheres. One of the pioneers of modern Egyptian literature, Tawfiq al-Haqim, though his passionate about theater, contributed to the development of the novel to address societal issues more effectively. In his work Avdetu’r-Rûh (The Return of the Soul, 1933), he used the arguments of intellectuals who were clinging to their deep-rooted past in response to the West. In addition to the sense of devotion that constitutes the theme of the novel, which is mainly about the life story of a fifteen-year-old teenager, problematics of the period like feudalism and superstitions were also the subjects of critique. Document analysis method has been used in the research and the research pattern was formed as a case study. The status of problem is to examine the elements of criticism in the content of the work of Avdetu'r-Rûh. The limited number of studies on the novel, which constitutes an important link of the first period Egyptian novel, reveals the importance of this research. This study aims to analyze the themes and issues addressed in this significant work within the context of al-Haqim’s literary contributions.
