Hattat Mehmed Şevket Pektaş hayatı, sanatı ve eserleri

Abstract

Mehmed Şevket Pektaş 1880-1969 yılları arasında yaşamış, 20. asır Osmanlı ve Cumhuriyet devri Türk hattatlarındandır. Hayatı hakkındaki biyografik bilgi, kendi verdiği terceme-i hal kaynaklığında İbnülemin Mahmud Kemal İnal'ın Son Hattatlar adlı meşhur tezkiresinde neşredilmiş, günümüze kadar tek kaynak olarak yer almıştır. Literatür kaydından iz sürülerek şifâhî nakille alınan bilgiler ve mevcut kayıtlardan alınan notlar birleştirilmiş, tedkik ve tahlil usûlü içinde, arşiv belgeleri, fotoğraflar ve eser örnekleriyle detaylandırılarak yazılmıştır. Mehmed Şevket Pektaş İstanbul'da Kocamustafapaşa semtinde doğup büyümüş, burada sıbyan mektebi ve rüşdiyede tahsil görmüş, hüsn-i hat meşk edip yetkin bir hattat olarak yetişmiş, Medresetü'l-Hattâtîn´in ilk mezunları arasında yer almıştır. Aynı zamanda Emtia Dahiliye gümrüğünde çalışmış, Matbaa-i Askeriye´de harita hattatlığı ve Devlet Matbaası hattatlığı vazifelerini uzun yıllar sürdürmüştür. Bir müddet hakkâk dükkânı işletmiş, Cumhuriyet Gazetesi'nde hattat olarak görev yapmıştır. Gençliğinde sporculuğa yönelmiş, Beşiktaş Jimnastik Kulübü´nün ilk kurucuları arasında yer almış, güreş müsabakalarına katılmış, mekteplerde jimnastik ve yazı hocalığı yapmış olan Mehmed Şevket Bey, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu´nun son devrinde yetişen güçlü hattatlardandır.

Mehmed Şevket Pektaş lived between 1880 and 1969 and is one of the Turkish calligraphers of the Ottoman and Republican eras of the 20th century. Biographical information about his life has been published in the famous treatise "Son Hattatlar" by İbnülemin Mahmud Kemal İnal, based on his own autobiography, and has remained the sole source to this day. Information gathered through oral transmission and notes taken from existing records have been compiled and elaborated upon within a research and analysis methodology, detailed with archival documents, photographs, and examples of his works. Mehmed Şevket Pektaş was born and raised in the Kocamustafapaşa district of Istanbul, where he received his education at a primary school and a secondary school. He practiced calligraphy and developed into a skilled calligrapher, becoming one of the first graduates of the Medresetü'l-Hattâtîn. He also worked at the Emtia Dahiliye customs office, held positions as a map calligrapher at the Military Printing House, and as a calligrapher at the State Printing House for many years. He operated a carving shop for a while and served as a calligrapher for Cumhuriyet Newspaper. In his youth, he was inclined towards sports, being one of the founding members of Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club, participating in wrestling competitions, and teaching gymnastics and writing in schools. Mehmed Şevket Bey is one of the prominent calligraphers who emerged during the late Ottoman Empire period.
