Introduction,1st International Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Symposium of Islamic History of Science

Abstract

Türk Bilim Tarihçisi Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin hocanın 30 Haziran 2018 tarihinde ebediyete irtihalini müteakip Cumhurbaşkanımız Sayın Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, 2019 yılını “Fuat Sezgin Yılı” olarak ilan etmiştir. Bu çerçevede İstanbul Üniversitesi Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf Üniversitesi ve Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin İslam Araştırmaları Vakfı’nın işbirliği, Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı İstanbul Kültür ve Turizm Müdürlüğü’nün destekleriyle 13-15 Haziran 2019’da İstanbul’da 1. Uluslararası Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin İslâm Bilim Tarihi Sempozyumu düzenlenmiştir. İslam bilim tarihi ile ilgili çalışma yapan dünya bilim tarihçilerinin katıldığı bu sempozyum uzun bir hazırlık safhası geçirmiştir. Sempozyum çerçevesinde İslam medeniyeti bünyesinde yüzyıllar boyunca oluşan aklî ve naklî ilimlere dair birikimin mahiyeti, tarihî gelişimi, problemleri, literatürü ve tarih yazımı vb. konular ele alınmış; Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin’in bu alanlardaki çalışmaları ışığında değerlendirilmiştir.Following the death of Turkish Science Historian Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin on June 30, 2018, our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, declared 2019 as the “Year of Fuat Sezgin”. In this context, with the cooperation of Istanbul University, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University and the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Research Foundation for the History of Science in Islam, and the support of the Istanbul Directorate of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the 1st International Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Islamic Science History Symposium was organized on June 13-15, 2019 in Istanbul. This symposium, attended by world science historians studying the history of Islamic science, had a long preparation phase. Within the framework of the symposium, the nature of the accumulation of knowledge in Islamic civilization over the centuries, its historical development, problems, literature and historiography were discussed and evaluated in the light of Professor Dr. Fuat Sezgin’s work in these fields.
